Block unused outlets

There are devices known as safety caps.  These caps go into the outlet to prevent items from being stuck into the holes.  Parents with young children use them to prevent their babies from sticking in objects and getting shocked or worse.

Don’t yank on cords

Sometimes a plug may get stuck or be difficult to pull out of a socket.  Don’t yank on the cord to try and get it lose.  You want to gently remove the plug from the head by grasping it tightly and then pulling.  It may take a little elbow grease to get it out, but it will come out.

Keep your cords organized

You don’t want your cords lying all over the house.  If you do, then people can trip and fall over them.  If you are running a cord across the room tape it down with masking tape or slide it through a piece of molding and have that taped to the ground.  Also, if you have a lot of cord to work with, try having it around a spool that will allow you to release the amount of cord needed at that specific time.
